When I Am Among the Trees

When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness,
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.

Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches.

And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say,
“and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine.”    ~ Mary Oliver

Well first of all I want you to know, that YOU ARE CREATIVE.  You are!  Everyone is!

CREATIVE–adjective

1. having the quality or power of creating.
2. resulting from originality of thought, expression, etc.; imaginative: creative writing.
3. originative; productive (usually fol. by of).
4. Facetious. using or creating exaggerated or skewed data, information, etc.: creative bookkeeping.

If you take the time to make a wonderfull meal for your spouse  when they come home from work your being creative!  If you take a little time and sit down with the kiddies, and make a little peanut butter playdogh, or paper snow-flakes, or even to color a few pictures, your being creative.  The way you keep your home, is creative, its your very own ideas and love put into the arrangements around the home.  Just because we don’t all create masterpieces sold for millions in famous galleries, or have our own painting show like Bob Ross, or sell a million things on etsy or even sell a million books about “How to….”  doesn’t mean your not creative.   God gave us the gift of CREATIVITY.  It’s what we choose to do with our creativity, that is our gift to HIM!

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For while knowledge defines all we currently know and understand, imagination points to all we might yet discover and create”.  Albert Einstein

“When we allow God to bestow His favor and beauty and delightfulness on the work of our hands, He makes artists of even the humblest among us”  Leanne Payne

“Years of patience, discipline and effort are the price of access to a strict and personal vision.  An artist is not born but made.”  Jean-Max Taxier

Without faith and draftsmanship (the ability to draw) your paintings will crumble.  Faith is needed to keep the subject matter holy, while drawing is a cable that  bind’s one’s convictions together.”  Tintoretto,16th century Venetian master

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in

by E. E. Cummings

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
                                                      i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

“They’ll sell you thousands of greens. Veronese green and emerald green and cadmium green and any sort of green you like; but that particular green, never.”
Pablo Picasso, 1966
“Every good artist paints what he is.” Jackson Pollock
Van Gogh on Color: “I know for sure that I have an instinct for color, and that it will come to me more and more, that painting is in the very marrow of my bones.”
(Letter to Theo van Gogh, 3 September 1882)
“Cobalt is a divine color and there is nothing as fine for putting an atmosphere round things. Carmine is the red of wine and is warm and lively like wine. The same goes for emerald green too. It’s false economy to dispense with them, with those colors. Cadmium as well.”
(Letter to Theo van Gogh, 28 December 1885)
Van Gogh on Facing a Blank Canvas: “Just slap anything on when you see a blank canvas staring you in the face like some imbecile. You don’t know how paralyzing that is, that stare of a blank canvas is, which says to the painter, ‘You can’t do a thing’. The canvas has an idiotic stare and mesmerizes some painters so much that they turn into idiots themselves. Many painters are afraid in front of the blank canvas, but the blank canvas is afraid of the real, passionate painter who dares and who has broken the spell of `you can’t’ once and for all.”
(Letter to Theo van Gogh, October 1884)

“And what does it feel like?” we asked.
“Well, ” she said,
leaning over to us like a secret,
“it feels like a gust of wind
blowing inside your heart.
It feels like bright yellow paint.”

~ Monique Duvall, The Persistence of Yellow

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes…the ones who see things differently, they’re not fond of rules. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things…they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

- Steve Jobs
